Recently we reached a major, preliminary milestone, as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had decided to move forward with more formal studies of acupuncture for low back pain. The goal is to conduct studies in the age group covered by Medicare, in order to determine if the evidence for acupuncture’s effectiveness is sufficient to include it under general Medicare coverage.
