World Acupuncture Day / World Scientific & Cultural Dialogue on Acupuncture

World Acupuncture Day (November 15, 2018)

www.wad-o.com/en/

This is an exceptional event concerning a medical practice in use in most countries of every continent: acupuncture.

Indeed, acupuncture is a practice of major interest in terms of both cost-effectiveness and risk-benefit ratios, allowing Acupuncture Without Borders-type NGO’s to act effectively and at a very low cost in countries lacking health-service infrastructures. Moreover, these NGO’s train professionals whose only cost is the purchase of needles (less than 0.2 cent per needle) or their manufacture.

It might seem more appropriate to have the WHO involved in this day, but in fact, the development of acupuncture cannot be divorced from its integration within the various Anglo-Saxon and Western Mediterranean cultures. It is this cultural clash between Asia and the West and the resulting intercultural dialogue that are the subject of the humanities, UNESCO’s special niche.

World Scientific and Cultural Dialogue on Acupuncture (November 16 & 17, 2018)

Two days of Worldwide Scientific and Cultural Dialogue on Acupuncture (WSCDA), 16 and 17 November 2018, will bring together health professionals from around the world to share their knowledge, skills and practices. These two days will be held at the Convention Center of the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie: www.cite-sciences.fr/fr/accueil/

This will consist of two days of exceptional meetings, conducted by the best specialists in all disciplines related to acupuncture and moxibustion, for a constructive exchange. Once again, this project will be held under the high patronage of UNESCO and the WHO and chaired by the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies (WFAS).

The program includes lectures and workshops on the clinical practices of acupuncture and moxibustion. But practice cannot be considered without knowing of the great scientific works that brought acupuncture to preeminence.

The socio-economic benefits of acupuncture, its usefulness in meeting current health challenges, its safety, its effectiveness, and clinical research will also be part of this wide-ranging program. Dynamic exchanges will also bring together sociologists and anthropologists in a symposium of unprecedented magnitude on integrating acupuncture in the West. Many other themes will also come up in these dialogues, especially through the presentation of humanitarian actions carried out in all countries suffering from health crises.
